Collector I

Description
Collects payments on delinquent retail consumer accounts; contacts borrowers by telephone, determines reasons for delinquencies, conduct basic negotiations and follow established department procedures. The collections counselor will manage a queue of delinquent loans ranging from 15- 90+ days past due. The collections counselor will be responsible for utilizing all SKIP tracing systems to acquire and document current consumer information (i.e. phone numbers, addresses, places of employment). The collections counselor will also be responsible for negotiating payment arrangements through a variety of different channels and ensure these arrangements get the consumer caught up with the past due account. The collections counselor will also be responsible for meeting and exceeding department and Bank wide goals on a monthly basis. The purpose of this position is to aggressively pursue past-due accounts according to the Company's Standard Operating Procedures and government regulations.
Duties:
Collects payment on early delinquent 15-59 days consumer and residential accounts.
Straightforward, routine nature, obtaining commitments from customers late on loan payments according to executed loan documents and department procedures.
Accurately document customer account activity on system in clear and concise manner
Develops familiarity with collections processes and Company products.
Work to reduce overall delinquency without sacrificing customer service standards.
Basic problem solving ability within authorized guidelines; escalates more complex problems to Supervisor or department mentors.
Ability to meet department production goals and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
Computer proficiency required for using collection applications, databases, word processing programs and creating spreadsheets.
1 year banking, collections or call center experience
Problem solving skills and capable of effective listening.
Ability to understand and follow established procedures.
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure. Perform the four operations with like common and decimal fractions. Compute ratio, rate and percent. Draw and interpret bar graphs. Perform arithmetic operations involving all American monetary units.
Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations



Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
